I’d like to remodel my home, what’s the best way to go about it?

We believe:

  • Step 1: To determine the process in which you will hire a contractor either Design/Build or Bid your plans.
  • Step 2: Talk to your neighbors, friends, and business associates, or local Professional Associations (Builders Association of Central MA, National Association of the Remodeling Industry) ask for a referral from someone that they either have had experience with or know someone that has.
  • Step 3: Review the referred contractor’s website, and call for an initial phone meeting to learn more about the contractor.
  • Step 4: Invite 3 contractors to your home for an onsite interview, be prepared for this with questions & concerns, so when you are talking to all contractors you are telling or asking them the same information.
  • Step 5: Let the process begin, the contractor you choose, should see your vision, be organized, professional and a clear communicator throughout the project. The contractor should compliment your personality and you should feel very comfortable with them.

What is Design Build?
Design Build is a process to provide building and remodeling services to clients.

How is Design Build different from other processes?
The Design Build process is the quickest way from inception to completion of a remodeling/new construction project. It brings the design and construction elements of a project together in one company. With the same company providing the design and construction, you can know the budget before drawings are ever done and paid for. Generally over 80% of projects designed are never built. There are many reasons for this but the main reason is the design exceeds the budget. Design professionals are paid whether the project gets built or not. Architects and designers main source of income comes from the drawings not the construction.

Over 95% of the projects J.E.P. Contracting Inc designs get built. This is mainly because you know the budget before the designs are drawn and paid for. J.E.P. Contracting Inc’s main source of income comes from providing you with what you want; a completed project including the design, rather than thousands of dollars of worthless paper and ink.

Will J.E.P. Contracting Inc work with my design professional?
Yes. J.E.P. Contracting Inc is here to serve you and will respect any relationship you have with others. The same care and effort used to complete a project of our own design is used to complete any project we are involved with.

What does J.E.P. Contracting Inc mean by “Turn Key”?
There are numerous aspects of a project that can be overlooked or hidden, we call these holes. Many contractors escalate the total cost of the project and make profits from the holes. If you are not looking or don’t know where or how to look for the holes you could end up paying much more than you thought you would. J.E.P. Contracting Inc looks to fill all the holes in a project up front. All our proposals include everything from the design and permits to the final coat of paint and cleanup unless otherwise stated. A typical job for J.E.P. Contracting Inc will have a minimal amount of extra cost – most often which are bona fide changes at the client’s request. Extras are always brought to the client’s attention and approved by the client before any work is done. You will never be presented with a bill for work you did not approve. The price you pay will be for the work you want and agreed to.

Do you have references?
J.E.P. Contracting Inc is proud of its excellent references. We will provide references on request so long as the references are used as the final qualifier. We respect our clients’ time and privacy and wish to limit the number of calls for references they field. If you have decided that J.E.P. Contracting Inc is the company you would like to work with, so long as up to three of our references check out, we will cheerfully provide them to you.

Are you licensed & insured?
Yes. As well as being a “Certified Remodeler,” we are licensed through the State of Massachusetts License # CS 72366. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires all contractors to register with the Board of Regulations & Standards (registration #136642) and we provide a certificate of insurance.

Do I have to get involved with the city for permits or will you provide them?
We will deal with your local municipalities and obtain the necessary permits as part of our service.

What measures are taken to keep my house clean and reduce the amount of dust?
For interior jobs we use plastic dust barriers around the construction area. Our workers clean debris and sweep the area daily before leaving for the day. We try to minimize our interaction with non-construction areas and use walk cloths on finished floors we may need to walk on to access the construction site (i.e. hallway to a bath). For exterior improvements, like roofs, we use tarps around your house to fully protect your landscaping and the sides of your home. Our employees do a walk around at the end of each day to make sure there is no visible debris in your yard. We treat your home like our own and strive to minimize any disruptions to your life.

What types of warranties does J.E.P. Contracting Inc offer to its clients?
J.E.P. Contracting Inc offers some of the best warrantees in the contracting, remodeling and service business. On our initial consultation we will provide you with a copy of our warranty.

Do I need to leave my home during the remodeling process?
No, not always in fact most of our customers stay in their home during the remodeling process. We pay special attention to your living space during construction. We understand that remodeling is a stressful process, we try to make the process as easy as possible. If we are remodeling your only bathroom we can, guarantee that you have a working toilet at the end of each day.

How much will my remodeling project cost?
It’s very important to establish a realistic budget that will allow you to make the changes that you desire. There are many variables that play a large factor in the cost of any remodeling project. What is Remodeling Fever?
Remodeling Fever is a condition that could occur during the process of your remodeling project. It is usually caused by lack of communication between the contractor and the homeowner. Fortunately, Remodeling Fever can be controlled and in most cases completely prevented simply by maintaining open lines of communication. J.E.P. Contracting Inc meets face to face weekly with all customers while there project is in build. We are always available by e-mail or by phone 508-865-4063 Patrick is the person who is on the job site everyday & answers every phone call.

If I have concerns or changes that I want to make during the project, how will they be handled?
Patrick meets every customer weekly during the construction process. At these meetings all changes are discussed written up, priced and signed off on, before any work is started.  This process keeps you informed on the overall budget.

What type of payment schedule do you have?
For the majority of our jobs we break the payments down to five installments: Larger jobs such as new home construction can be broken down into more payments, oftentimes in conjunction with a bank or other lenders construction “draw” schedule.

What kind of construction expertise do you have?
Patrick Perkins has been in the construction business since working as an apprentice cabinet maker during High School, this is 29 years ago. Patrick has been in sales, design & construction management for 24 years. His construction management experience is what will make your working with J.E.P. Contracting Inc a positive experience. Patrick the owner of the company works with every customer very closely to ensure customer satisfaction.

What geographic areas do you work in?
Our company is based in Millbury, Massachusetts. Our core work areas are in the various neighborhoods of Worcester, and the suburbs surrounding Worcester, such as, Sutton, Grafton, Oxford, Douglas, Shrewsbury, Dudley, Auburn, and Charlton. However, we work in other communities beyond these, and would consider larger construction jobs further from our home base in Millbury.
